The first session, whether you are coming as an individual or as a parent or caregiver this is an opportunity for us to build connection, begin to build a safe and open space for you to share your thoughts, emotions, concerns and hopes. This is an opportunity to share some more about why you might have begun this journey and what kind of support you might be looking for. It’s also very normal to not know exactly what kind of support you might be looking for. In this first session, your therapist will help guide the conversation and will share some of the more specific types of services or support that they think might be useful. This first session is just the starting point; we want you to feel welcomed and support to begin this journey at your own pace.
If you are a parent or caregiver, we ask that you book a parent session. This session is just for the adults, parent(s) or caregivers. This gives us a chance to connect and share without having your kiddo present. We use this time to discuss concerns and next steps before we have your kiddo come along. The second session may include having your youth or child come along or it might include another session just you and your therapist. You will discuss the next steps during this first session.
In the second session, we will continue to build our relationship and continue the conversation. This might look like digging a bit deeper into some of the things you might have shared in the first session or it might look like digging into a topic that you bring with you ready to tackle. You are welcome to come to this session with a specific thing you’d like to talk about or you might come not knowing what you want to focus on. Your therapist will meet you where you are at! The second session is still an early step in the process, so we would encourage you to practice patience as we continue to build our connection and you share more of your story.
As the therapy journey continues, you and your therapist will continue to explore together. Your therapist will integrate a variety of different therapeutic interventions to support exploration and growth. You may have specific interventions that you are hoping your therapist might use, you are welcome to ask more about this. Your therapist might suggest some specific approaches (specifically if you are working with them with your child or youth). While your therapists are trained in specific areas, we will use a variety of different approaches in our work together.
Please read more about our approaches below.
Your therapist will come prepared to use their toolbox of different techniques and knowledge! We want to support you to manage challenging life circumstances and emotions and be a solid safe place for you to develop new skills and perspectives to build confidence and resilience.
